Chief Edwards graduated from BLET at Johnston Community College in Smithfield, NC in November of 1990, and has been employed with the Benson Police Department since October of 1996. He previously worked for the Coats Police Department as a Patrol Officer, and the Sampson County Sheriff's Department as a Deputy, and later as a Drug Agent. He was hired by former Chief of Police Don Miller as a Lieutenant, and was responsible for supervising the Investigations Division. In April of 1999, he was promoted to the rank of Captain, and was made responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Police Department. Upon the retirement of Chief Miller in December of 2002, Edwards was selected from a large applicant pool to be the next Chief of Police of the Benson Police Department.
